Project I

A series of photographs born from a collaboration between performance artist Will Dickie and myself, the Aesthetics of Quietude explores the margins between movement and stillness. By capturing a sequence of precise movement of apparent and alluring simplicity we examine the ambiguity of stability. My interest is in articulating presence and absence in a kind of visual equivalence, a symmetry of tension suspended and contained within the equilibrium of the image. Presence and absence are explored with relation to perception, as if time has been not momentarily but permanently arrested, highlighting the presence of absence.
